SPL featured in the Chagrin Valley Times

In case you missed it, here is the email announcing our kick-off on April 29th:

Hey Everyone,

SPL is HERE!  Tuesday is the first night of SPL ‘14.  For Tuesday, are you IN, OUT, or available as a sub if needed?  Play will start at 7:00 or 7:15 depending on venue.  To help acclimate the new players, one venue will likely have most of the new players and a couple of experienced players to “show them the ropes”.

Ø  SPL’14 Launch Party:  Tuesday before paddle will be the second annual Launch Party for SPL.  Happy hour will run from 5:30-7:00 at Cleveland Racquet Club in the bar nearest to the outdoor tennis courts.  This is a great way for new players to meet some of the more experienced SPL players and to start the season on a festive note.   This happy hour is pre-paid for by your SPL dollars and will be a great time! If you are not playing paddle on Tuesday for some reason, you are still welcome to come to the happy hour.  For those new to paddle, unlike tennis, it is ok to have a beer or two before playing paddle.  Some claim it is like playing pool…you get better with a couple of beers in you.

Ø  Weekly Communications and Responding:  Each week, you will get an email formatted exactly like this one.  At the top will be the most important part, asking you whether you are in for the following Tuesday.  Below that will be other SPL details and items.  Your attendance each week is as simple as responding “in” or “out” each week.  We try to accommodate as many players as possible each week.  However, if you are one of the last respondents, you are likely to be placed on the waiting list for that week and will be plugged in as a sub if others cancel.

Ø  Weekly Attendance:  The success of the SPL format depends on having the correct number of people at each venue, so if you are unsure of your availability on a given week, it is best to consider yourself a sub.  If something comes up and you have to opt out, the sooner you do so, the better.  Saying you are "in" and not showing up is this is the cardinal sin of SPL, and has only happened once in two years.

Ø  Venue Preference:  While every player is asked to be available to play at any venue, there are some geographic considerations when assigning venues.  If you have a very strong preference toward easterly (Racquet/Country) or westerly (Skating) venues, please let us know.  Everyone will sometimes have to play at a less convenient location, but with all the new players this year, it is good to know if you have a strong preference so you aren’t inadvertently and repeatedly assigned to a venue that creates a hardship for you.

Ø  Fees:  So far, fee collection has been robust.  However, there are still lots of people who have not yet paid.  Please visit clesummerpaddle.com to do so.

Ø  T-Shirts: There are still some unclaimed t-shirts from last year.  Please respond with a shirt size if you never got one.  Starting Tuesday, the excess shirts will be given to SPL sponsors, friends and supporters.

Ø  Social Media:  SPL and Cleveland paddle have several social media outlets.  Please check out clesummerpaddle.com, the Cleveland Paddle page on Facebook and clevelandpaddle on Instagram.
